P= 4s, since the length of the side of a square are all equal.

s- refers to sides
then if your finding the are of a square the formula is:
A=S²

Perimeter is the distance around a polygon or simply the sum of the sides of a polygon. In this case if we're about to find the formula of a square, we'll use the formula: s + s + s + s or 4s because obviously, square has 4 sides so we're going to multiply the length by 4. 

Example:

Find the perimeter of the square which has a length of 7 cm in each side.

4s = s + s + s + s
4(7) = 7 + 7 + 7 + 7
28 = 28
