What roles can I perform that will make a difference in my life? Why is it important to know my roles in life?
When people are asked "What do you want to be?", we often reply "I want to be successful"... and that must be the first thing we should change about ourselves.
Instead, our mantra should be "I want to become useful. I want to become a man of value."
Success isn't the peak. Our life as a message to the society IS the peak.
We can narrow these "roles" down to 2 general things: CAREER and PASSION!
Our career is the formal education/trainings that we want to achieve.
This is the certain degree that we love to earn. We call this our expertise and technical knowledge.
People will trust our advocacy if we are trained to do it, right?
But passion has deeper meanings.
This is the reason why we're still alive, motivated to study, keep on dreaming and working.
Example: I want to earn a college degree, major in Accountancy for I want to become an expert in this career/field/profession. But I am passionate about teaching! So, I am willing to pursue this course and when I graduate, I might teach accounting and business subjects in schools. I'll share my knowledge to the younger generation. And hopefully, that generation is going to be great in their chosen profession and also inspire others to make our society a better place. I just don't want success. I want legacies and values.
That's why it is important to know our roles (or our calling) in life! We are able to plan and execute our goals to make a "difference". Being intellectual isn't enough, we should be wise too.
How can I perform my roles in life effectively?
To perform our roles effectively, we must be sure about our advocacies and must have self-confidence to pursue them.
When we are confused because of certain factors in the community that pressure us to do something against our principles... we should always remember 3 things:
1. This is my call if I love this and feel loved by doing this
2. This is definitely my call if I can definitely do this
3. This is definitely and absolutely my call because the world becomes a better place if I do this
Moreover, to perform "our calling", we must know no boundaries and limits.
