why did minos imprison daedalus in the labyrinth?

Sagot :

Answer:

Why did Minos imprison Daedalus in the Labyrinth?

Daedalus and his son Icarus were held as captives in the labyrinth because of his participation in the Queen’s plan to seduce the King’s prized bull. The birth of the Minotaur was the last straw for King Minos who saw Daedalus as a treacherous man especially after being accepted by the kingdom despite his nefarious reputation in the past with regards to his nephew’s death.

Explanation:

Here is the sequence of events that led to their captivity:

  1. Queen Pasiphae was cursed by the god of the sea Poseidon.
  2. The queen came to Daedalus for help.
  3. He designed and successfully executed the plan to satisfy the queen.
  4. The queen gave birth to the Minotaur.
  5. Daedalus was ordered to construct the labyrinth.

The curse placed upon Queen Pasiphae caused her to be sexually attracted to the king’s bull. Obviously, the queen’s charm didn’t work on the animal so she went to see Daedalus and ask if he could help her with her problem.

And this is what Daedalus did:

  • He created a realistic looking wooden cow which is hollow inside.
  • He asked the queen to crawl inside it and move towards the bull with the use of the various levers that control its legs.

This creation allowed the bull to mate with Queen Pasiphae who later on became the mother of the Minotaur, the half man, half bull monster for which the labyrinth was created for.

After everything became clear, King Minos ordered Daedalus to build the labyrinth in order to hold the Minotaur. He also ordered his men to imprison Daedalus and his son Icarus in it as punishment for allowing such a disgusting act to take place.
