Smoking is detrimental to our health. It causes diseases to our body most especially to our lungs.

Here are its effects to our different kinds of body:

  • Circulation  - the cigarette has a tar which is poisonous to the body when it enters the blood. It makes the blood thicker and increases chance of clot formation. Also, it increases blood pressure and heart rate which hinders the heart from functioning normally. The tar will narrow arteries which will reduce the amount of oxygen in the blood. From this, the person who smokes become more prone to heart attack.
  • Heart  - smoking damages to the heart as it increases risk of heart disease, heart attack and stroke. The nicotine increases chances of blood clots. Also, some chemicals on the cigarette smoke can damage the lining of arteries.
  • Stomach - Smoking increases risk of getting cancer and ulcer. This is because smoking weakens the muscle that conrols the esophagus causing reflux.
  • Kidney - studies also find out that smoking is has significant effect to kidneys causing cancer.
  • Skin- smoking reduces the amount of oxygen in the skin making it easier to age and look dull. Studies have find out that those who smokes has a lot more wrinkled skin than those who do not.
  • Bones - Smoking can cause your bones to become weak and brittle. Women need to be especially careful as they are more likely to suffer from brittle bones (osteoporosis) than non-smokers.
  • Brain - smoking causes brain aneurysm. It increases risk of brain damage.
  • Lungs - the lungs is the one that gets mainly affected.  Smoking can cause fatal diseases such as pneumonia, emphysema and lung cancer.  
  • Mouth and throat - smoking also causes bad breath and stained teeth, and can also cause gum disease, damage your sense of taste and can lead to oral thrush.  It can also cause cancer in the lips, tongue, throat, voice box and etc.
  • Reproduction - smoking causes impotence to males since it damages the blood vessel supplying blood to the penis as well as damages the sperm causing reduced sperm count and causing cancer in the testis. For women, it may cause miscarriage, reduce fertility, risk of cervical, premature birth and ovarian cancer.
