Community
Community is a place where people can grow to be better individuals. The community should teach us things about life, and drive us towards having a better future. However, if the community fails to act as one and help the citizens, then, the community failed to fulfill its purpose and thus, is not an ideal one.
I consider my community to be not an ideal one for the following reasons:
- Lack of cooperation among citizens
- Lack of proper governance
- Lack of communication among people
Lack of cooperation among citizens
My fellow citizens lack cooperation among themselves. They rarely care about the things happening to one another and have been passive and inactive in participating to community affairs. Whenever there are issues in our barangay they don't act to resolve those issues. Instead, they wait for the government do something with it instead of solving those issues themselves. Some of these include:
- Improper waste management
- Dengue outbreaks
Lack of proper governance
Corruption is common in my community. The officials would choose to bag the money intended for the citizens instead of using it for the welfare of the people.
In addition, most of my fellow citizens would choose to elect someone not qualified enough for the position. They settle for something less than what they deserve. An example would be electing a former convict as a senator.
Lack of communication among people
Since people are busy living their lives, they often do not have time to communicate with each other. If they have concerns, they would often direct it at social media instead of addressing the person or the proper authorities directly. Furthermore, people rarely takes the initiative to reach out to their fellow citizens.
