Pampanga Festivals

  • Pampanga festivals are mainly related to Catholic religious traditions. The majority of the traditions are based on good harvest and a prosperous year for farmers and fishermen. Many of the town organized annual  celebrations to promote their goods and maintain the Kapampangan culture.

  • El Circulo Fernandino - It is the prestigious social gathering of the wealthy in the City of San Fernando.  It has been founded since 1920 and is held every year. It's a night full of desire for the beautiful  ladies wearing their most costly jewels, gowns and ternos.

  • Sinukwan Festival  - Aring Sinukwan (King Sinukwan) is the deity of ancient Kapampangan.  Representatives of the various cities of Pampanga participated in the celebration.  Street dance is the highlight of this gathering, with every delegate dancing to the tune  of the Pampanga Song "Atin ku pong sings" in their elegant headdresses and colorful costumes.

  • Makatapak Festival –“ Makatapak "is the word Kapampangan that means barefoot.  This festival is the popular re-enactment of the town people in Apalit who walked barefoot  through Lahar to find a safer place to live after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.

  • Philippine Hot Air Balloon Festival – Annually kept in the Omni Aviation Complex within the Clark Freeport Region.  It features multicolored hot air balloons from around the world, and is the largest aviation sports festival in  the Philippines.

  • Sabuaga Festival – It was held every morning on Easter Sunday.  The flower petals are strewn as the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary passes through the procession.  "Sabuaga" means flower showering; it was celebrated in Sto. Tomas, to praise the  Blessed Mother of God. Street dance also promotes the products and customs of the region.

  • Caragan Festival – Caragan is the name of the first chief of the native Aeta. It's a street dance  every third week of February. The Aetas displayed their rituals and practices in their native costumes.

  • San Pedro Cutud Cricifixion Rites – every Good Friday at 3 p.m., there is a real nailing  on the cross of three flagellants in the town of San Pedro Cutud. It is an popular tourist destination.

  • Pyestang Tugak – Pyestang Tugak or Frog Festival, which started in 2003 in the city of San Fernando.  The goal is to preserve the culture of Kapampangan and to promote Pampangan's special frog cuisine.  

  • Giant Lantern Festival – City where San Fernando is regarded as the Philippine Christmas Capital.  Seven barangays from the City of San Fernando are taking part in the Giant Lantern Competition.  Twenty-foot-diameter lanterns with thousands of dancing lights appear every Saturday before Christmas.

  • Duman Festival – this custom of crushing and waving unripe glutinous rice until it  transforms into a green delicacy called Duman with a sweet and tasty little one. It will take place every  first Saturday of December in Sta. The parish church of Rita.  

  • Apung Iru Fluvial Festival – this is a river parade of the image of St. Peter or the local named Apung Iru, which starts every June 27th and culminates on June 29th. The colorful pagoda is borne and  ferried by people along the Pampanga River. Devotees ride in colorfully decorated boats and pray around  the pictures.

  • Ibun-ebun Festival – Ibun means the bird "Ebun" means the shell. This festival in the town  of Candaba is a tribute to the active egg industry of the duck. Dumara is a wild Filipino duck  that successfully breeds in Candaba Swamp.
