Sagot :
Answer:
Why did the gods give a condition to Orpheus regarding his bride before they return to Earth?
The exact motive behind Hades’s condition on retrieving his wife’s soul isn’t clear, but here are some logical reasons why it was given:
- Hades wanted to know if Orpheus trusted him.
- He wanted to test Orpheus.
- He never really wanted to give up Eurydice’s soul.
Explanation:
Hades may have wanted to test Orpheus’s faith in his word by giving the condition of not looking at Eurydice until they have reached the outside world. He may have wanted to know whether this young man trusted him or not.
Another view is that he may not even like giving the soul back, Hades must have regarded her as already being a part of the underworld. We can tell that this may have been the case since it had to take some convincing from Queen Persephone for Orpheus’s wish to be granted.
Just like most gods and rulers for that matter, I believe Hades is just someone that has a god complex. He knows that he holds Orpheus’s faith in his hands while he is down there, he appears to enjoy playing with the young man’s feelings. He seems to feel more important and powerful as the young man implores.
If this wasn’t the case, Hades could have just done the following:
- Given back Eurydice’s soul to Orpheus with no condition.
- Immediately placed them outside of the underworld.
- Wished them well.
These are simple acts of goodwill by ordinary people that may be hard for those tyrants with power. They seem to relish seeing regular people ponder, maintain control, and fear the consequences of not following unnecessary rules that were placed by them. They love seeing their fellow man struggle like laboratory rats in a maze, “let's see who gets to find the food first”, “I wonder what would happen if we do this”. The closest thing to this in real life is when you are dealing with the government agencies, where the one who is supposed to assist you just does not care, and they wouldn’t have any trouble making you go to this place or to that place for days.
Again, I would say that Hades is just suffering from a god complex, which means he has no empathy. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have given that condition.
