Slaying of Medusa
Polydectes, who was trying to woo Perseus’ mother Danae, sent Perseus n an impossible quest: to bring back the head of Medusa. Polydectes swore to Perseus that once he completed his task, he will stop bothering and harassing his mother. Perseus set on with his trip and was helped by Athena and Hermes. They gave him a polished shield for a mirror, and some other useful items the one-shared-eyed Graeae helped him locate. Killing of Polydectes
Back in Seriphos, Perseus learned from Dictys the full extent of Polydectes’ ploy: not only he never really married, but also, the minute Perseus left, he started harassing Danae. Enraged, Perseus stormed to Polydectes’ palace, and, upon finding the king and his attendants feasting all together, he raised Medusa's head and everyone immediately turned to stone. After making Dictys king in the place of his petrified brother, Perseus returned the divine items he had held in his possession, gifting the Gorgon’s head to the goddess Athena who subsequently put it in the center of her shield, aegis, to be its most recognizable emblem forevermore.
