It is being creative of highest quality in making buildings with proper planning, designing and construction of a building. It is a style and method of design and construction of buildings and other physical structures. According to Vitruvius, a good building should satisfy the three principles of firmitas, utilitas, venustas which the original translation -firmness, commodity, and delight.
An equivalent in modern English would be:
- Durability – a building should stand up robustly and to remain serviceable in the surrounding environment during the useful life without damage or unexpected maintenance.
- Utility – includes both the function of a building and its role as a protective shelter or its uses.
- Beauty – it should be aesthetically pleasing.
