Whenever I think of an island, the first thing that comes to mind is the warm tropical paradise type. There I would see the ubiquitous coconut trees by the beach and a dense forest behind it. If there is an abundance of corals a few meters underneath the waters, I would expect to see white sand covering the beach with little hermit crabs crawling around. This of course is what one will expect to see when the island is located around the Equator.
Islands found in the colder regions of the world would be less appealing. Standing anywhere close to the water would give a feeling of being exiled on a rock. I expect to find rocks and Tusset grass being blown by the cold wind underneath a grey sky. These types of places are seen as you sail towards the northern or southern poles of the globe.
