Good Day
Question:
what kind of wave is light?
Answer:
Electromagnetic Wave
Electromagnetic wave doesn't need a medium to propagate like the outer space which is an empty space. Sunlight is an example of electromagnetic wave which travels the outer space (vacuum) to reach the earth. Electromagnetic wave is a combination of of electric and magnetic fields since a changing magnetic field create a changing electric field. Both electric field and magnetic field oscillate perpendicular to each other and to the direction of the wave travels.
Types of Electromagnetic wave:
1. Radio wave
2. Microwave
3. Infrared
4. Visible light
5. Ultraviolet radiation
6. X-ray
7. Gamma ray
- Among all type of electromagnetic waves, our eyes are sensitive only to the wavelength emitted by visible light that is why we can detect light.
- White light is composed of different color depending on its wavelength. We have Violet, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and red. Red has the longest wavelength while Violet has the shortest wavelength.
