Setting

The main part of the story of Orpheus is set in the Underworld where he journeyed to bring his wife, Eurydice back to life.

Plot

The plot consists of the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. When the readers know the plot of a story, they will understand its flow better. The exposition in the story is when Orpheus and Eurydice married. The rising action was the part when Eurydice was bitten by a snake and was sent to the Underworld because of her death, while Orpheus ventured to the Underworld to bring her back to the land of the living. The climax was the part when Orpheus climbed back to the land of the living with Eurydice following him behind but Orpheus did not follow the condition set by Hades and looked back at Eurydice. The falling action is when Eurydice was whisked back to the Underworld forever. The resolution is that Orpheus is never allowed to return to the Underworld and must come to terms that he cannot bring his wife back again.

Conflict

The conflict in the story of Orpheus is "Man vs. Himself". Orpheus could not fight his own impatience and lack of trust.

Theme

The theme of the story is to follow the rules set by the Gods. In various stories in Greek Mythology, it's often that characters are having issues because they failed to follow the Gods.
