The story of The Soul of the Great Bell was about a sacrifice that made the bell complete and magnificent. The son of heaven Celestial August ordered the worthy official to make preparations for the making of a Bell whose sound can be heard from miles and miles throughout the kingdom. And so the worthy official gathered all known molders to make the Great Bell.

The bell has metals like gold, brass and silver and has writings on its edges. But the metals used always collapsed and never came together. The Son of Heaven grew impatient in waiting, he threatened the worthy official to speed up. The daughter of the official overheard, she wanted to save her father.

The characters in the story:

  1. Celestial August- the Son of Heaven who wanted a great bell
  2. Kouan-Yu- the worthy official and the father of Ko-Ngai
  3. Ko-Ngai- the maiden who sacrificed her life  for the bell

The Great Bell was completed after Ko-Ngai’s sacrifice, it is said that her cries can be heard while the bell makes a sound.
