A lot of factors affect climate. Some of these are the following:
- Distance from the sea - the sea affects a climate. Coastal areas tend to be cooler than inland areas.
- Ocean currents - the current of an ocean can increase as well as reduce temperatures.
- Direction of the wind
- Topography of the land - mountains are cooler than low lying areas. The higher the place, the colder it will be. This is because the air becomes thinner.
- Distance from equator - the energy of the sun reaches the surface of the Earth at a thicker layer than in the equator.
- Altitude - those within higher altitude tend to have colder temperatures. The temperature decreases by 1°C for every 100 metres in altitude.
