why did minos imprison daedalus in the labyrinth

Sagot :

Answer:

Why did Minos imprison Daedalus in the labyrinth?

King Minos imprisoned  Daedalus and his son Icarus in the labyrinth because he was responsible for the birth of the Minotaur, a creature the king viewed as an abomination.

Explanation:

Here are the events that led to their imprisonment at the tower:

  1. Daedalus moved to Crete
  2. King Minos made him the kingdom’s technical advisor
  3. he invented many things that benefited the kingdom
  4. he helped the cursed Queen Pasiphae in her desire to mate with the king’s bull.

When Daedalus was in Athens, he was a well-known inventor and artist famous for creating many things.

Here are 5 things he is known for:

  • The first bathhouse
  • designed the dance floor
  • realistic sculptures
  • carpentry and many of its tools
  • flying toys

Even with all this fame, he was accused of murdering his nephew because of jealousy. As a result, Daedalus was banished from his birthplace and landed on Crete. Since his skills were known on the island as well, King Minos accepted him and gave him the position as Technical Advisor to the palace.

He continued with his inventions, amusing the king’s children with mechanical toys that moved on their own. He also further advanced the shipping industry by creating the first sail.

Behind all this, the god Poseidon cursed the king’s wife Queen Pasiphae which caused her to fall in love with the king’s best bull. Unable to attract the animal, Phasiphae approached Daedalus for help.

Daedalus fashioned a hollow wooden cow to hide the queen inside. This contraption worked and the bull successfully mated with the queen. After some time, she gave birth to the Minotaur which angered the king. Daedalus was ordered to construct the labyrinth to imprison the creature. Daedalus and his son were placed on the tallest tower on the island as punishment.
