Carbohydrates:

1.Disaccharides in carbohydrates ,mainly glucose is used in the process of producing energy which meet the requirements of our body. It is through the process of glycolysis(break down of glucose into to pyruvate molecules) and the energy released is in the form of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate)

2.Pentose sugars(ALSO CARBOHYDRATES) like Ribose and deoxy ribose are involved in the formation of nucleic acids such as RNA and DNA.

Lipids:

Storage of energy for long-term use (e.g. triglycerides)

Hormonal roles (e.g. steroids such as oestrogen and testosterone)

Insulation – both thermal (triglycerides) and electrical (sphingolipids)

Protection of internal organs (e.g. triglycerides and waxes)

Structural components of cells (e.g. phospholipids and cholesterol)

Proteins:

Histone protein helps in the coiling of DNA during interphase.
