According to the poem "The seven Ages of Man", to what does the world being compared to?

Sagot :

Answer:

All the world’s a stage,

And all the men and women merely players;

They have their exits and their entrances,

And one man in his time plays many parts,

His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,

Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms;

And then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel

And shining morning face, creeping like snail

Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,

Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad

Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier,

Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard,

Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel,

Seeking the bubble reputation

Even in the cannon’s mouth. And then the justice,

In fair round belly with good capon lined,

With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,

Full of wise saws and modern instances;

And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts

Into the lean and slippered pantaloon,

With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;

His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide

For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,

Turning again toward childish treble, pipes

And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,

That ends this strange eventful history,

Is second childishness and mere oblivion,

Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

I just got to study this now, anyway I will still try to shine some more light on the obvious.

I believe jacques in his speech compare’s life to the stage. Why? Because human beings grow in stages which he describes from infancy till death but that is not the question I was asked, so I would not begin to answer. It is expressed above how much of mere players we are to life, which reminds me of a saying “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”.

Life is like a game with us humans as mere players, playing our part (some may play defence, offence - all parts are shared differently but still we as humans have been created to work together as a team) until the end of the match where we get to leave the field for another set of players to come play their turn. Once a match has been played, the players who played after the blow of the final whistle cannot come back to change the scores, whatever scores are played there and then remain till someone else comes to score better or score worse.

So my dear Jacques is simply saying that no matter what or how well we think we are faring or have fared in life or how much of life we feel we know, life is still a greater force that man has not been able to control. Life seems to still be in control and we are just simply puppets playing a part and acting out scenes from life’s script on life’s stage that someone else would come act out again and again like a revolving cycle.

I hope this helps you out. Have a great day. Cheers
