Always happy and smiling. I have seen the poorest of the poor who have no idea where their next meal is coming from smiling. Americans who have their name misspelled at Starbucks will pout all day.

Very family focused. They will spend time with their families and extended families all the time. This builds close families. Need someone to watch your daughter while you go to work? You probably have 4 aunties or cousins who will do it.

Friendly and welcoming. Filipinos love most foreigners. They are very welcoming and accommodating. If you try to speak a little Tagalog or Bisaya, then they will be even happier. They want to share their lives with you and you will be invited to many family events, even funerals. Yeah, I have been to a half dozen and I am not Catholic.

Negatives:

Filipino time. I never got used to this. Set an appointment for 1PM and the Filipino will show up at 2PM and not text you or call. Then they will say traffic lang. As if they didn’t know traffic was always there lol. Plan for traffic.

Dishonesty. From my experience, honesty isn’t important in the Philippines. From the government all the way down to taxi drivers. Many will lie to avoid confrontation. But its far easier to lie than to just own your mistakes. Like being late….

these are just my opinions from my experiences. Inevitably, there will be someone who will respond with not all are like this. No, I didn’t say ALL are like this. These are generalizations that apply to most. some are not family focused or friendly. Some are honest and on time. But every Filipino knows Filipino time so my generalizations are not off the mark.
