Does the society consider aged people at par with people with special needs? Justify.

Sagot :

Answer:

Society doesn’t consider those who suffer from any form of impairment at par with people who are able-bodied. The society considers them as being different. The society sees them as disabled. To them they are all in the same basket and the society wants to make sure that they all need the support of the society.

Why is the answer important?

This question is an important one because, a young person would say that he/she is in a position to support an aged person or an aged person is in a position to support a young person. However, a young person cannot support an aged person. The society is aware of this fact and thus, to ensure that a young person or an aged person gets the benefits of the society, they provide special arrangements for their support. Similarly, they also support those with special needs and provide different facilities and services for them. In today’s society, there is no concept that an aged person or those who are having difficulty should have the same status as people who suffer from a mental disability. So the society provides special arrangements for people who are having special needs.

It can be said that, the reason behind this attitude is that, elderly people can’t understand certain things the same way as others. For example, people with intellectual disability understand things better than people who do not have any impairment.

How can the society change its attitude towards the aged?

The society has to first try to understand them. The society has to be aware of the fact that there is no age difference between people with the same ability. The society should also understand the fact that the society is not providing special arrangements to people who have special needs, as a result, these people don’t have the same rights as people with mental disabilities.
