Fine adjustment knob can be used only with the HPO so that the slides will not crash with the objective lens.

Coarse and fine adjustment knob is used with Low Power Objectives to focus the specimen. However, when you already find the focus, you can only use the fine adjustment knob. This is to ensure that the slides will not crash with the objective lens.

When using the High Power Objectives, we only use the fine adjustment knob and not the coarse adjustment knob. The HPO has longer body tube than the HPO and due to this, using the fine adjustment will avoid the HPO to break or crash with the slides.

The fine adjustment knob will move the objective lens slowly to avoid damaging the objective lens.
