A community is made up of many populations. An ecosystem is made up of communities and the non-living creatures in their environment. The biosphere is made up of all of the Earth's ecosystems. In every ecosystem, water is a scarce resource. Every day, you can save water by turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, repairing leaking faucets, taking shorter showers, and watering plants with the cooled water used to boil vegetables instead of pouring it down the drain. Simple behaviors, such as turning off lights and appliances while not in use, will add up over time. Composting organic matter helps to reduce landfill waste while also providing nutritious soil for your garden. Look for products that don't include any dangerous chemicals during the manufacturing process or in the finished product. Recycling is the process of repurposing an item for the original function or breaking it down into its component parts for reuse. Although recyclable packaging is preferable to single-use packaging that will wind up in a landfill, the success of recycling is dependent on local infrastructure.
