In your own words, write any idea regarding assigning letter Grades and computing grades.

Sagot :

Answer:

Letter grades are referenced to some sort of criteria of performance, and vary from subject to subject. Letters can be turned into numbers and numbers into letters and none of them are absolute (an A can be 70% in one system, 90% in another - both equally valid), and all of them reflect some kind of assessment of how much you’ve learned because they are all data.

Here in the Philippines, the national education system recently (around three years ago or so) switched from using Percentages in the student report cards and instead used letter grades. It was on the news and we see teachers talk about why this should be a good thing.

Filipino parents are too strict on their children’s grades. They base their children’s grades according to “lines of X”. “Line of 9” (90 to 100) is outstanding, “line of 8” (80 to 89) is good, although the upper half of “line of 7” (75 to 79) is considered passing, a parent won’t accept this.

That’s why teachers decided to use letter grades. The criteria for “A” is 85 to 100. The parent won’t get mad just because his/her child fell from “line of 9” to “line of 8”. Since “86” is equal to “A” and thus can be considered outstanding.
