QUESTIONS:
1. Why it is important to know all the general types of Intermolecular forces of attraction. Explain your answer.
It is quite important to know all the general types of intermolecular forces of attraction because it provide a mechanism for how and why molecules interact. We can now have a deeper understanding of the subject chemistry because of the ability to use representations of the structures of molecules which predicts the observable properties of a substance. They determine the physical properties of molecules including the boiling point and melting point.
2. Based on your answer in number one, cite an example that is applicable in our daily living.
The best example of this is our very own universal solvent, water. We use water in our daily lives. It is composed of hydrogen and oxygen atoms that are bonded to each other by hydrogen bonding.
Note that a hydrogen bond is a special form of dipole-dipole bond which exists when hydrogen atoms covalently bonded to Nitrogen, Oxygen or Fluorine in the form of covalent compounds. This is also the strongest intermolecular bond.
