the longer base of an isosceles trapezoid is 36 inches. the altitude is two thirds it's shorten base. find the area in square meters and perimeter in meters if the shorter base is one half it's longer base?

Sagot :

In order to get the area of the trapezoid, we have the formula:

[tex]Area = \frac{1}{2}(base1+base2)*height[/tex]

Check the attached photo for reference. (sorry if it looks weird)

Now that we know that:
base1= 18
base2= 36
height= 12

Plug-in those values to our formula and we will be able to get an answer for the area.

Now, for the perimeter, we cannot use the formula a+b+c+d because we do not know the values for the inclined sides of the trapezoid. Therefore, we use this:

[tex]Perimeter= base1+base2+height( \frac{1}{sin(base1)}+ \frac{1}{sin(base2)} )[/tex]

Again, plug-in the values that we got in order to get a value for the perimeter.
