What is the epic poem, "Beowulf", about?

Beowulf is an epic poem named after. Beowulf who is a Scandinavian hero. It is said that Beowulf's battles are inspiring and mighty which is why he became a notable hero in literature. The heroic poem is divided into two parts:

  1. Beowulf visited Heorot to defeat the monster, Grendel, who has been haunting the grand mead hall every night for twelve years. Because of Grendel's nightly attacks, the Danish citizens were not able to use the mead hall anymore. Fortunately, Heorot's plight was heard by Beowulf and he took it upon himself to defeat the monster despite his name not having heard across countries. Beowulf was able to destroy the doubts people of Denmark had set on him when he was able to mortally would Grendel. Consequently, Grendel's mother avenged her son but Beowulf remained victorious by beheading her,
  2. When Beowulf became king, he had battled with a dragon who was causing fright in his citizens. The king fought bravely with Wiglaf, however, the others feared the strength of the dragon which caused them to desert Wiglaf and their king. Beowulf was victorious in battle but he suffered a mortal wound which soon became the cause of his death.
